With the Reinstatement of Ray Rice, Ravens fans are reminded how a loss of hope fell over the team, who would be without their running back following the suspension after his Assault case. Although the Pro Bowl Running back had a bad 2013-14 season he had been a key piece in helping the Ravens make playoffs runs consecutive years and eventually a Super Bowl Championship.
Free agent acquisition Justin Forsett seemed an unlikely candidate to fill the shoes of the Pro Bowler, but during the 2014-15 season he has done just that. Through Twelve weeks Forsett has a respectable 903 yards on the ground which is the fifth best in the NFL following only known names, such as Lynch, Murray, and McCoy. With players with at least 100 carries He is also averaging a League best 5.8 YPA (Yards Per Attempt) and adds another league best with more 20+ yard carries with a staggering Twelve followed by Leading rusher in the NFL DeMarco Murray with Ten.
How the eight year veteran out of Cal who had never rushed over 650 yards in his career could all of a sudden become a league leader has not happened by accident.
Last week Forsett rushed for a career high 182 yards against the Saints. According to the Ravens Rank as the best running games once breaking into the Second Level. Justin Forsett is by no means a Breakaway Runner or a legit over sized Power back, but his agility and hole vision gives him the ability to catch defenders moves before they hit the hole. A solid deep offensive line is also a key component in his success, behind Zuttah, Osemele, Yanda, Monroe, and Ried and Wagner on the Right, this offensive line has grown together over the years and seems to be getting better Protecting Flacco giving up only 15 sacks this season when last season Flacco had been sacked for a carrer high 48 times, and opening up holes for the run game, in which they struggled last season with Rice as the running back. As Forsett is no “newbie” to the game at 29 it is uncertain on the length of a contract extension he will be given after this season. On Pace for 1,400 yards he is deserving of at least another year, especially if the Ravens can make a strong Push into the Playoffs. Forsett is not a product of an outstanding Line, he is in fact a talented Running back who has flourished under new Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak’s scheme.
On Sunday The Ravens Face off against the San Diego Chargers who rank Eighth in Net Yards Allowed only but still allow 108 yards per game on the ground. The Ravens will need Forsett to play another stellar Game and open up the field for Flacco to Convert those big plays he loves so much. This should be the hardest matchup for the Ravens in their last five games and would be the exact kind of fuel they need to make a strong playoff push to overcome the best division in the NFL the AFC North.
